Meeting Bruce
Close your eyes and imagine what cuteness would look like if it was an animal. Now open them… Voila! We have Bruce.
Yesterday evening, we went to meet Bruce and his gorgeous brothers and sister. At this point, we hadn't decided whether we were going to get a puppy or not, let alone what it was going to be called. But as we entered the house, it was pretty obvious we wouldn't be leaving without one of these adorable bundles! *excited noise*
Our choice was between four tan males and one black and tan female (who looked like a mini Rottweiler!). Their mother was a Miniature Jack Russell, and their father a Parson's Jack Russell. The result? A litter of totally unique puppies who look more like chunky Labrador puppies than Jack Russells! Complete and utter cuteness. Bruce will be joining our family on the 28th October!
The Name Game
During the drive over to meet the puppies, our sheer excitement caused us to begin thinking about names. Knowing my history of naming, it was likely that I would come up with something highly unoriginal such as 'Mostly Tan' or 'White Toes'. However, due to my slight Lion King obsession, my first thought was 'Simba', to match our mental cat Nala (more on her later). However, it seemed a little too feline and not quite macho enough for Mum, who wanted to call it Riker (from Star Trek - sad or cool? Hmm.)
Other names that came to mind were Barney (after the purple dinosaur or How I Met Your Mother), a strange string of names relating to biscuits - Custard Cream, Jammy Dodger etc. - and finally resorting back to box sets, with Frasier or Niles, which we decided was a tad pretentious - "Niles, fetch the sherry!"
However, our decision was made for us by the owners who has already given the puppies provisional names, including Bruce, Rocky and Andrex!
Why the Name 'Bruce' Provides Endless Entertainment
- It gives me an excuse to walk around talking to my puppy in what I think is an Australian accent.
- It also gives me an excuse to play the "G'day Bruce" game regularly.
- It links back to my love of cheesy game shows, think Bruce Forsyth and his "Brucey Bonus".
- It gives me a reason to extend my hat collection.

Future Friends of Bruce - Nala
I think it is time to mention the animals Bruce will be joining in our household when he becomes part of the family. That way you will know what I am harking on about when I mention them in future posts!
You may look at this picture and think "Awww, that's such a cute kitten". But you are wrong. She is evil. Here are the reasons why:
Reasons Why Nala is an Evil Genius
|
Calm after the storm. |
- She likes to bring us home rare, endangered and large prey. This includes three racing pigeons (she kindly left us the feet with the tags on) which we had to report to the Royal Racing Pigeon Association. We then saw on a programme that they can be worth up to £11,000 - Nala must have a taste for expensive meat.
- She blew the electricity of the whole house by weeing on the PlayStation.
- She must have an agreement with whoever manages the shrew population that she must kill one shrew per day. She proved this by bringing us seven when we brought her home from cattery after our holiday.
- She has cost me over £60 in replacement phone chargers by eating all of my friends' (the chargers, not them. Although I wouldn't put it past her.) She seems to have a worrying obsession with chewing through wires whilst they are plugged in, no wonder she always gives me an electric shock.
However, Nala is now a few years old and only shows her evil side occasionally. I am sure she will love having a little friend to tease and pester.

Teddy
This amusing bundle of madness is our lovely dog Teddy. He is allegedly a Jack Russell cross, however, being a rescue dog, we are not sure of this and his strange characteristics (and tail) have lead to some confusion over this matter. For this reason, he is our Soft-Eared Mongolian Mousehound.
Teddy has many unusual and amusing traits such as his ability to know all the names of his toys and be able to fetch one when asked to.
This picture shows Teddy looking very tired and proud after winning his 1st Rosette for "Best Fancy Dress" when I dressed up as a bee and him as a flower - We were 'To Bee or Not to Bee' which is pure genius if you ask me!
Teddy is mental and will chase a ball around for hours. He hates being bathed and will shiver for ages afterwards to make us feel guilty. He discovered he could swim (although not willingly) when he ran onto a duckweed covered canal thinking it was grass. Although he will not admit it, I know that Teddy will love having a new little friend to snuggle up to and to help him stand up to the cat!

Teddy and Sam. |
This is Teddy with our beautiful Labrador, Sam, who sadly had to be put to sleep this year after 12 years of eating, sleeping and not much else! We will always remember him for being the gentlest, friendliest, most laid back dog. These two were the best of friends, and he will always be in our hearts.
Anyway, I hope you have been amused by learning about my weird and wonderful pets, and not too bored by my rambling. Be sure to keep following my blog for updates on the pets and our little puppy Bruce!!
11 days 'til Bruce day…
